Evanescent (feat. Al Jewer)
Release #27 of The 52
Evanescent is a rich tapestry of piano+flute composed in collaboration with flutist Al Jewer. It began with a solo piano piece of mine, then Al was inspired to compose and perform an absolutely beautiful, many-layered flute counterpart to the piano. You will hear the silver concert flute, the Native American flute, and even an ethereal ‘flute cloud’ in the middle of the piece: six flutes played at once, mixed to make them sound especially magical and floaty.
Stormstruck
Release #26 of The 52
Stormstruck rises from hauntingly gentle to become an intense, metal-esque ride by 4 hands and one grand piano. Rachel LaFond and Scott D. Davis team up to attack the piano from a rock perspective, adding a guitar pick and string-muting to forge a rock sound larger than the piano itself.
Shades of Solitude – Embrace
Release #12 of The 52
If the solo piano version of Shades of Solitude takes the listener on a journey through the grey mist of loneliness and grief, Mike Bloemendal’s redux brings the sweetness of an embrace that lifts the veil and lends some shine to that solitude. Mike Bloemendal is a mastering engineer, producer, runs a commercial studio, and, as found on this track, is an emotionally captivating guitarist.
Well Past Midnight
This album begins with five haunting solo piano tracks. Each then reappears in a lovingly produced adaptation by award-winning composer and engineer Mike Bloemendal. See how the music lifts beyond the solo piano into a richer, more cinematic experience, and feel how the emotional character of each piece changes. This album left one reviewer saying “One could see this entire album being used in a Tim Burton movie”!
Kingfisher
A standalone remix from Wandering Soul
One of the most popular songs from Rachel’s debut albums was picked up by New Age and prog-rock artist Paul Landry. His remix showcases a more ambient version of the song that goes beyond solo piano.
