Hey guys! I made a video about what can you do on the daily to help support and promote your favorite up-and-coming artist on social media. Let me give you a little peek behind the curtain with some insight on how you can be a part of an artist’s success story. Here it is, and I’ll put the text of the video down below for those of you who prefer to read rather than watch =)

Hey guys! My name is Rachel LaFond, and I am a pianist, composer, and a recording artist. I’m here to talk to you today about supporting your favorite new artist in some non-obvious ways. I’m not talking about buying the music, or listening to the music on your favorite streaming platform, attending performances, writing reviews – I’m talking about social media.

Fans on social media are actually incredibly important to new musicians today – what followers on social media choose to do or not do can literally make or break a music career.

So if you’re asking yourself what you can do to help support and promote an artist you really love on the daily, here it is. First of all, go follow that artist on all the social media platforms you use. I’m talking Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, anything you’ve got an account on.

Second, ‘like’ everything you see from that artist that seems to merit a like. If your favorite artist is like most artists I know, they’re posting about their music, or about their lives, or something they think is great, usually something worth liking.

Third, comment on your artist’s posts! Speaking for myself, I LOVE to have a chat with my fans on social media, and if I ask a question in a post, I’d genuinely like to hear what you think. Even just a more general, “This is really great, thanks for posting!” or “Congratulations!” can make a big difference.

Fourth and finally, if you think something your favorite artist has shared or created is really wonderful, share it with your own friends. If there’s a particular song by that artist that you just LOVE, you can listen to over and over, share that song with someone you think will love it as much as you do. For new artists, finding new listeners can be a bit of a slow process. By being a supporter in the early stages, you can really make huge difference for that artist.

So, we’ve got four things you can do on social media to support your favorite up-and-coming artist. Follow, like, comment, and share. These things are important because they are actually tracked by aggregator websites like nextbigsound.com, where radio stations and music blogs, and music reviewers can see how an artist is performing on social media. And if an artist is seeing a lot of growth and engagement from their fans on social media, they will be more likely to be written about, featured, and have their music played – these are the things that can MAKE a music career. So now you know what a big effect you can have, by simply clicking a little heart or thumbs up, by typing a few quick words.

Artists, please feel free to share this video with your fans if you agree with me and want your fans to know all this. And, if you haven’t yet, please come follow me on social media.
